1990s
The 1990s were the scene of a blend of musical styles that often made shows like Top Of The Pops or compilation albums like the Now! That’s What I Call Music series, seem like a complete mess. The charts were volatile with rap, dance, europop, indie, rock, house, disco, reggae, and ‘baggy’, all giving huge hits to a wide range of artists. As vinyl and cassette began to fade, and illegal downloads began to cut sales, the music industry stood on the edge of the abyss and stared.
